It’s a new year and everyone is making lists. Whether it’s to exercise two times a day or eat more kale, we have this habit of reaching for the extreme and sometimes unrealistic…every single year. But what if our lists read a little different this time? What if they become a reflection of last year’s challenges, unexpected plot twists, and great opportunities?
For the past two New Year’s, I have found this alternative to be a wonderful source of inspiration and motivation for what lies ahead because it helps me realize just how far I have already come. Sure, there are new things that I would love to try and goals that I hope to fulfill, but this perspective is a sweet pause and gentle remembrance to my personal dance with life.
What unforeseen challenges were you faced with in 2013?
What did you learn about yourself in friendships, relationships, and career needs?
What opportunities were you greeted with that made a lasting impact?
It’s time to say goodbye to the list that we will dread a month from now and hello to a look back on our accomplishments, the good and the not so lovely, and a more compassionate approach to our future endeavors. While a new year is great for new beginnings, it’s also the perfect time for reflection and just a little self-love (+ lots of forgiveness) in the process!
